Memoir '44 takes players to the fields and beaches of 1944 Europe and World War II.

This ripper game features a large two-sided board which represents the battlefields of the campaign.

One side features a grassy field, while the other depicts a beachhead.

Each board is split into thirds by a dotted line to represent the three flanks of the battlefield.

The game allows two, four or six players to take part and each player or team takes control of either the axis or allied forces.

Memoir '44 comes with a scenario booklet that contains a total of 16 missions or battles that were actually fought during the campaign, and many more can be downloaded from the Memoir '44 website (www.memoir44.com).

Each scenario shows how to set up each side's forces and also lists how many medals each side must win to gain victory.

Medals can be earned by eliminating an entire enemy unit or by capturing strategic locations such as towns and bridges.

The forces at your command include infantry, armour (tank) and artillery units and the models used are simple but effective.

During the game a series of cards are issued to each side and these are used to provide orders to units on the battlefield.

Each card lists the number of units that can receive orders and in which part of the field.

This is a great feature as sometimes a player may only limited orders for the area of the field where most of their troops are positioned.

Whilst frustrating at the time, this reflects the mayhem of war and the illogical decisions sometimes made by the command.

Once a card is played it is discarded and a new card is drawn.
There are also strategic cards in the deck that have special commands like Air Strike, Ambush and Armoured Assault.

Memoir '44 is a fantastic game to play.

Each unit has its own movement and combat conditions.

These variables ensure that players must carefully consider the units at their disposal, the terrain they find themselves in (terrain affects movement and combat conditions) and the orders at their disposal.

Memoir '44 will delight anyone that enjoyed playing with army men as a kid (okay, I admit it).

This is a great game to play and families will find it a great way to spend quality time together.
